Altona Wetlands/Wyndham Bay Trail COMBO

Meet at IGA Car Park, Victoria Street, Ballarat East, at 9.00 a.m. for car/bike pooling to leave by 9.15 a.m. It is 1hr 20 travel, via Western Freeway to the car parking area at Altona.  We will meet at Apex Park (Esplanade).

 

With an ETD of 10.45 a.m. for cycling, we will venture southward along the Wyndham Bay Trail to Cheetham Wetlands; circumnavigate Sanctuary Lakes before hooking onto the Skeleton Creek Trail. With a mix of beach, nature, residential and reserves, there will be opportunities for sightseeing including the 100 Federation Steps, significant indigenous areas, environmental and historical points of interest.  Great views back to Melbourne skyline.    35km approx.  Flat, well made cycle paths except 1km gravel near Point Cook Homestead. 

 

It is estimated that we will be back at the car park around 3 p.m. for return to Ballarat, beach walk or have fish and chips.

If you prefer to meet at ride destination,  ie GOOGLE Maps 'Apex Park PLAYGROUND, Altona' travel via Western Freeway toward Deer Park, following signs to Altona.  Nearing the Bay, you should be travelling along Maidstone Street, coming to T-Intersection (Esplanade). Turn Right to Park in this area; if no parking available, u-turn and travel along Esplanade  OR Car Park off Queen Street.
