Activities Program
The main club activities are day walks and take place in a large number of different areas ranging from suburban parks to the nearby mountains. Historic walks around the suburbs of Melbourne are also on offer.
Basecamps, cycling and a range of social events are also offered. Trips within Australia, overseas and locally are also undertaken periodically.
Grading of Walks
It is most important that before you consider going on any walk, particularly those graded medium or more strenuous, you should consider whether you are sufficiently fit and experienced and have the necessary equipment.
Easy Walking on gently undulating terrain, mostly on formed tracks. Suitable for most people. Walking time 4 to 5 hours, 6 to 12 km.
Easy/Medium Gently undulating terrain, mostly on formed tracks with some short climbs. Walking time 4 to 5 hours, 10 to 15 km.
Medium Some of the walk not necessarily on formed tracks, with some sustained climbs (1km or more). Walking time 5 to 6 hours, 10 to 20 km.
Medium/Hard As for medium but includes rougher terrain, ie. heavy scrub, rock scrambling or longer climbs or descents. Walking time 5 to 6 hours, 10 to 20 km.
Hard Consistent walking in difficult terrain, rock scrambling, thick scrub, steep ups and downs, creek crossings. Experienced and fit walkers only. Walking time 6 to 10 hours, 10 to 20 km

These are our upcoming activities:
A circuit walk from Lucas via Skipton Rail Trail to Blind Creek Road, returning via Wetlands area. Grass, gravel & asphalt paths. Flat. From Sturt Street West, turn left into Eleanor Drive, continue around until Playground and shelters on Left. Parking spots aplenty! Normal BYO chair and picnic lunch. (There is a BBQ here too!).

We will meet at Slatey Creek Picnic / Camping area #1 in Creswick State Park for a 6 km loop walk. The walk will be on walking track, 4WD track and a bit of easy off track. After the walk, join us for a jaffle lunch at the picnic area.
We will provide basic jaffle making ingredients (bread, cheese, ham) and some jaffle irons. If you want something more to your tastes, BYO ingredients!
We will also provide tea, coffee and milk.
BYO chairs, plates and mugs. If you have some jaffle irons that would be helpful as well.
The lunch will obviously be somewhat weather dependent, but we can provide an update closer to the time.

A train trip to Ballan: catch at either Wendouree Station 9.58 a.m. OR Ballarat Station 10.04 a.m.
If you chose to drive, please meet at the Ballan Railway Station ETA 10.22 a.m.
An unexpected wander around Ballan and the historic Cemetery before following the creek towards Mill Park, skirting the Golf Course and through wooded area before coming back to the Pub for lunch. Casual & comfortable walking shoes applicable.Then catch the 1.40 p.m. return train (to arrive Ballarat 14.20p.m.).

Halls Gap Weekend 2025
On Friday 20th June- Sunday 22nd June , I am offering the Halls Gap Weekend with a full day walk on Friday and Saturday with a half day walk on Sunday .

Mount Rosea Track 20km Friday 20th June
Head out on this 20-km return trail near Halls Gap, Victoria. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. This great walk starts off in the Rosea carpark, where you can enjoy stunning views of the of the Serra and Mount William Ranges. The walking track is well-formed but requires some rock hopping as the trail winds around, over and under boulders, caves and magnificent rock formations. You should wear good boots for this trek. The landscape consists of mountains, creeks, and waterfalls home to various wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, emus and native birds.
Boronia Peak Trail and Tunnel Track Return 22km Saturday 21st June
This well-marked walking trail starts at Delleys Bridge carpark to continue on the Boronia Trail in Halls Gap, just off Grampians Road. It leads up to a ridge studded with rocky outcrops and rock walls, with a bit of a climb from a third of the way in, perfect for scampering around and enjoying amazing 360 views. At the summit, visitors can see Grampians Ranges, Cathedral Range, Mount Williams Range on one side, endless flat plains, Fyans Valley, Fyans Creek, and Fyans Lake on the other. The landscape consists of mountains, streams and waterfalls that are home to a variety of wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and native birds. We will be returning to the Boronia trail after the peak and continuing on the Tunnel track which leads to Lake Bellfield and return .
The Pinnacle 8.5km Sunday 22nd June
Head out on this 8.5-km loop trail near Halls Gap, Victoria. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
Apollo Bay Weekend 2025

Apollo Bay to Blanket Bay , 22km, 8 hrs; Friday 22nd August
· This 22.0-km point-to-point trail from Apollo Bay =Elliot Ridge =Blanket Bay (GOW). We will carpool to Banket Bay and walk into Apollo Bay . Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h to complete.
Blanket Bay to Cape Otway 22km return Saturday 23rd August
22km, 8 hrs;

Apollo Bay to Marriner's Lookout Sunday 24th August
Explore this 6.9-km out-and-back trail near Apollo Bay, Victoria. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 4 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and walking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through May.
Travelling overland, thistrip with Kapalga Travel from Darwin to Adelaide involves camping in tents/swags, with hands on assistance with meals and camp duties. Warrnambool to Port Fairy Mahogany Walking Track Saturday 22nd November
22km, 8 hrs;
The beach walk from Warrnambool to Port Fairy passes the last known resting place of the elusive Mahogany Ship, thought to be a Portuguese caravel that was wrecked in the early 1500s. It later vanished under drifting sands in the 1890s.The area is also home to echidnas, rare hooded plovers, mutton birds and crested terns. Warrnambool Foreshore Promenade Sunday 23rd November
Get to know this 10.0-km out-and-back trail near Warrnambool, Victoria. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 58 min to complete. This is a popular trail for road biking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.
We will offer a series of cycling and walking day activities of different levels of difficulty. Jane and I will be camped at the Bright NRMA Holiday Park and encourage those that are interested in joining us to book their own accommodation for all or part of the week. More details later.
